Hello Heidi,

I am pretty certain the new Mickey will be appreciated by kids. They will get the chance to play with a classic cartoon character with an edgy personality. It’s the best of both worlds.

This transformation is executed by the top creative and marketing minds in the Disney Company. I assume they will carefully survey the reaction of kids and parents to this new Mickey, with follow-up marketing studies, etc. This must be a truly exciting challenge for the marketers.

Have a great day,

Phil

What a lovely piece on Mickey Mouse. I get google alerts about anything quirky (I wrote the Quirky Marketing Calendar) and could not pass up the chance to weigh in on this subject.

I think given the fact that so much is edgy in cartoons and entertainment for children these days, the new/renewed Mickey will be a welcome change for kids. Like you I personally like the original Mickey Mouse, he was more of a risk-taker and in marketing, its important to take calculated risks. I am sure the folks at Disney have given this a great deal of thought and testing. Let's just hope the outcome is not like what happened with New Coke. But then again it would make for great Media attention.

Have a wonderful day... and then some,
